Venezia

June 5, 2012

I have returned from my adventures abroad – but only briefly, as I’m flying off to Gloucestershire and then hence to Cornwall and 3 Wishes Faery Fest next Monday. The shop is open as normal between now and then.

Venice was glorious – beautiful weather, amazing food, epic shopping. I even got a little culture in there with a visit to the excellent Klimt exhibition at Museo Correr, the Gallerie dell’Accademia, and Museo Fortuny. I now have a fire in the head about making myself a Fortuny style dress (since no one seems to make them like that these days, and if they did I wouldn’t be able to afford it!). I bought some amazing printed velvet from Antonia Sautter’s inspiring shop, and got very excited in a stunning shop that sold Fortuny lamps and other lovelies. I did of course, return with masks – a Medici di Peste for my lovely husband, and a faerie faced leaf mask for myself from La Bottega dei Mascareri. I’m not quite back in the real world yet – I’ll have to ease myself back into the swing of things by making some elflocks this week!

  1. venice is so unreal! i was there last spring and i was like — unable to be a normal sociable person the whole time because i was so taken with it.

    • It’s quite awesome isn’t it? (As in, actually awe inspiring.) I find it amazing this whole city has developed in such an extraordinary place, with no cars and has largely managed to avoid so much of modern life. I’d love to strip away the market stalls selling kitschy masks and things though!
